6 months internship - Purification and testing of small proteins to enhance media performance

Faircraft is hiring!

About

Faircraft is a venture backed company developing a sustainable alternative to conventional leather.

Leveraging advanced cellular culture and material science techniques, we are putting ground breaking science at the service of fashion designers across the world through a material that is both highly sustainable and exciting to work with.

Job Description

We are looking for a  Master student to join our cell media team. You will participate in the expression, purification and testing of small molecules, by carrying out cell based assays. This role involves working closely with multidisciplinary scientists and engineers to obtain a deep understanding of our cell media formulation.

Main missions:

  • Optimization of protein expression and purification: The goal of this project is to test different culture conditions, expression vectors and chromatography techniques to develop a protocol for purifying small proteins that can be used in cell media formulation

  • Testing small proteins as potential agents to improve cell media composition: This project involves testing small molecules that are produced in house in 2D and 3D cell culture and identifying potential candidates for optimizing cell media performance to enhance the quality of Faircraft leather.

  • You will be involved in:

    • Designing and performing experimental plans involving cell culture, different chromatography techniques and Biochemical assays
    • Analyzing the data and writing reports of the experiments
    • Presenting the results to the collaborators

Preferred Experience

Final‑year engineering or master’s student (M2) with a background in Cell biology or Biochemistry.

  • Prior hands-on experience in bacterial cell culture, transformation

  • Preliminary knowledge of bioinformatics techniques like BLAST, sequence alignment, visualizing of protein structures using chimera/pymol can be beneficial but not essential

  • Proficiency in English
